Helene Peterson BSc, EEN

Helene commenced her training as a nurse at the Rockhampton Base Hospital in 1982 and since then has amassed extensive experience in manual handling of patients of all ages with all levels of mobility.
Following extended overseas travel she returned to Yeppoon nursing at the Yeppoon Private Hospital (Central Queensland). This is where she met Paul. They were married a few years later and progressed to have three delightful children. They spent time in Brisbane and Sydney with Helene nursing in many hospital settings along the way.

The family settled in Eumundi on the Sunshine Coast and are now happily residing in the lakeside community of Weyba Downs, Noosa. Helene has been nursing at the Eden Healthcare Centre, Cooroy since October, 2001, during which time she has progressed to being their certified no-lift trainer educating and assessing new and existing staff on correct manual handling techniques when assisting and moving patients. It was here that the inspiration for a ladder belt began. The elderly patients were having difficult handling the monkey bars and found the existing bed ladders hard to grasp. There was a need for a bed ladder which was easy to grip and soft on the elderly hands. Following the preliminary use of her first device it was found useful in many more mobility situations. Helene gives credit to the staff and patients at Eden as they have allowed her to trial prototypes and enhance the design of the MUMA in creating inspirational techniques for its use. She also offers her thanks to the no-lift training staff at Sundale Garden Village (ph 07 5441 1866) that have embraced the use of the MUMA in the care of their clients and given Helene unconditional support throughout its stages of development. Helene is currently upgrading her nursing qualifications through studies at the Sunshine Coast University, completing her second Degree this year.

Medi-MUMA

The company, Medi-MUMA was founded in March, 2008 and has patent pending on the product to safe guard its ownership. MUMA has been on trail at Sundale Nursing Home for some time and now is incorporated into their no-lift manual handling training. Please contact Chris Wilmot and Debbie Dempsey for their testimonial evidence in its use at Sundale Garden Village. Similarly Eden Healthcare Centre is using the MUMA in the every day care of patients by the nursing staff myself and Sue Sullivan have been utilizing the MUMA within our mandatory no-lift training for some time now and have seen evidence of its success by the large number of patients purchasing one to use in their own home environment.
Previous to the MUMA being in production, nursing staff have been sufficing with using towels to assist getting patients legs back into bed. Other uses of the MUMA such as moving someone forward in the chair and stabilizing their trunk when sitting up and on the side of the bed, have had no preexisting tools used by nurses.
Our mission for the MUMA is to assist nursing staff in safe handling practices which will both benefit the patient/client and the carers/nurses by alleviating the bending and stretching associated with personal cares. The MUMA will benefit those wishing to continue living in their own home environment, by providing a tool which will enable them and carers to use when assisting with cares.

The MEDI-MUMA is a family business and we are located on the Sunshine Coast, QLD. Please feel free to contact either myself or Paul if you have any further enquires.
